Water Update:
Next Well Scheduled for Namanyoni

The Main Street in Namanyonyi
We are reviewing the development priorities and fundraising strategies for the coming new year. The drilling site for the next well will be in the village of Namanyonyi. The well and tap stands will have significant impact on this village, with one of the largest Jewish populations of approximately 200 people.

A Better System of Communication
Communication with the community is challenging for a variety of reasons, one of which is lack of technical access. The community members currently have to travel Mbale to use public Internet services.
This summer, Deryck Reed, an IT specialist from the Institute, installed computers with internet service in the main village of Nabagoye. A satelite was installed on the building housing the store and the newly renovated "Internet Café."
The new computers in the Internet Café will provide a) faster and more efficient communication; b) educational opportunities for both students and adults; and, last but not least, c) an economic development project that allows the community to capture financial resources otherwise spent by villagers and tourists in Mbale.

Disease Prevention
The windows, doors and vents of public buildings in Nabagoye were fitted with screens as barriers against mosquitoes or other vermin. In Nabagoye Village, first aid clinic, the high school, and elementary school, where children board overnight, are fully screened. The work is beginning on the synagogue and homes and will continue over the next couple months. Screens need to be customized for the homes and since construction is not standardized, some the homes need to be retrofitted with frames before the screens can be installed properly. Once Nabagoye is complete, the project will move to Namonyonyi Village.
